What is the relationship between Lora and lorawan?

Lora is the protocol. Lorawan is a network that uses Lora. What are gateways? Gateways allow you to connect devices with lorawan over low-powered wireless networks, for example, wifi or Zigbee. There are two ways to set up a gateway. Lora and lorawan are two types of LoRa-based generic wireless communication technologies. LoRaWAN is developed by Stichting Loran, which was renamed to LoRa Alliance at the end of 2015, while Lora gateway, which is often abbreviated as “lorawan,” is developed by the Semtech Corporation under the name LoRaWAN-open (“lorawan”).

Lora and lorawan are radio technologies. Lora is an open standard, it uses a combination of both frequency hopping and direct sequence spread spectrum (FH-DSSS), and was first introduced by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) in 2007. Lorawan, meanwhile, is a proprietary technology based on LoRaWAN. It leverages FH-DSSS to provide a long range in harsh environments, but also Alora to provide longer battery life to sensor nodes.

The word lorawan is the name of this protocol, designed and created by T-Lora. It is not a word in Bahasa Indonesia. The combined form of “Lora” and “wan” means something like “the device that receives data using Lora ” or gateway that receives data by using Lora, or in Western countries, a satellite receiver or satellite dish. The term Lora means a star in Balinese, Indonesian language, especially in a group of stars. The word lorawan is the word that represents a star. The lorawan gateway has been released by OpenRemote to become an independent company.

Lora is the wireless protocol that is used in the lorawan wireless network. Although the term “lorawan” means “Lora network” in Thai, it has become synonymous with the Lora protocol in English. First of all, it’s important to note that “Lora” and “lorawan” are not interchangeable. A Lora gateway forwards data from nearby devices using the LoRaWAN protocol. The “lorawan” wavelengths (919- 922 MHz) are covered by different regulatory agencies in different locations around the world. You can check with your local regulatory authority if you’re unsure about which wavelength to use for the area in which you’ll be deploying your system.

Lorawan is the gateway through which end devices receive broadcasts from Lora and exchange messages with other end devices on the network. Lorawan is a very lightweight software with the main functions of broadcasting messages from end-devices to the cloud and vice versa and maintaining the network. Lora technology is used for many different tasks and solves many problems in real-world applications, however, not all of these applications were working together to solve common problems. Lorawan is a network protocol that aims to unify the Lora networks under an open network layer. It provides a gateway between various lorawan nodes, making it possible for cross-linking devices.

Lorawan is an open-source gateway software used to build bootstrapped Lora networks. It is developed by the Debian project and provides a web interface that allows interaction with the network nodes. It is designed to be run on low-power embedded systems such as the Raspberry Pi.

The word “lorawan”, which originally comes from the Balinese language, means “lontar leaf”, the leaves of Arenga palm. It is a symbol of wisdom, knowledge, and history in Bali’s Hindu system. The lorawan is also a technology itself to transfer data wirelessly by using the Arenga palm leaves as an antenna to transmit or receive data. Lorawan is Lora Technology for Wireless Communication.

In a previous post: Humon, Inc. launches new wearable device and software platform, I used the word Lora as a metonym for LoRa; this began as a joke between David and myself with no intended deeper meaning. A few months ago, however, I dug into this topic further with some friends. We considered: What is the relationship between Lora and lorawan? Is it possible to disambiguate these? Upon this further investigation, I decided that just using the word Lora as a metonym for LoRa or LoRaWAN was not sufficient.

Lorawan gateway comes when Lora technology establishes a bridge to communicate path, units, and meters. Lorawan covers more areas than other communication systems such as Zigbee, z wave, or Bluetooth. Lorawan provides one-way messages and does not need to receive information back from the gateway. The gateway needs to identify the message and it can send back its related information to handle the received message.

The lorawan is the gateway to a Lora network. It connects to an application running on hardware that supports standard Lora protocol such as nrf52 series and K64F, which creates the network with end devices. Lora is the physical layer of LoRaWAN used in telemetry IoT applications. Lorawan is a LoRaWAN network with Lora gateways (called “Lora nodes”), which transmit and receive messages over different bands. The term “lorawan” was coined by Andrew Nilsson (al Nilsson) in December 2014, as a portmanteau of the words “low power” and “routing”, about the routing protocol for LoRaWAN. The term is intended as a replacement for the ambiguous term “LoRa ”, which does not tell anything about the meaning of the protocol or its messages.

Lorawan is the gateway (or node) between the Lora wireless network and the Internet. It translates messages from Lora into IEEE 802.15.4, ad hoc point-to-point link, or Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN). LORAWAN is a LoRaWAN™ network gateway. In simple terms, it acts as an SMS gateway for LoRaWAN™ OEMs to integrate with existing backend applications or to communicate with LoRaWAN™ enabled IoT devices.

Lorawan is a new protocol that enables the proximity connection between smart devices, especially in a large area, such as in a city. Lorawan is used for smart metering, smart lighting, and so on. A gateway can connect multiple devices with the same network. For example, the gateway for the wireless follow focus system connects three wireless transmitters, then allows them to communicate with other devices on the wireless follow focus network.
